Do PT treatments hurt?
Good communication with our therapist will help minimize any discomfort. We want you on your way to quick pain relief and back to normal activities.
Physical therapy is not meant to hurt, but to relieve pain! There is a chance, however, as you restore your mobility that your pain levels will fluctuate. You might experience some temporary soreness from using muscles that are weakened or recovering. Rest assured that this is a normal response to physical therapy treatment and not a cause for concern.
What is something important to know about physical therapy?
With physical therapy, it’s important to know that the overall goal is to restore pain-free mobility and function and to prevent the injury or pain from recurring.
Our physical therapists evaluate your movement patterns, identify the cause of your pain, and work to manage or eliminate it altogether.
Physical therapists are trained medical experts when it comes to musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. They work closely with physicians to make sure that your treatment plan is as efficient and effective as possible. Physical therapy is a medical, hands-on approach to relieving pain and restoring function.
While every patient’s condition and pain is unique, our physical therapist will use a variety of gentle hands-on techniques, exercises, and equipment to relieve pain quickly and restore your function to optimum levels.
How long is each appointment going to be?
FMT addresses how the body functions as a whole.
Instead of isolating the injured or impaired area, FMT therapists focus on how it aligns with the rest of the body, which often reveals a different root cause than originally assumed.
To achieve exceptional patient results, Elite treats one patient exclusively for one hour in a private treatment room. This is not a semi-private session, as you may find in traditional PT offices (where appointments are often thirty minutes). Your healing is our focus and goal.
The number of sessions will be based on your specific needs, and your therapist will discuss this with you. You will most likely see your therapist once or twice per week to begin with, and as you progress through treatment, your sessions will be more spread out.
What kind of clothing should I wear for appointments?
Dress comfortably in clothes that allow easy access for the therapist to examine your problem areas.
For treatments, loose-fitting clothes that are comfortable for gentle exercises are often good choices to wear.
How can I pay for each session?
We accept cash, check, and credit card. It is our policy that payment is made at the time of service.
Do you treat my condition at your clinic?
Rest assured, our therapists are well trained to evaluate and treat your condition.
Our physical therapists have graduated from accredited physical therapy doctoral programs and are state-licensed.
Physical therapists have years of university-level training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology (the study of joint movement), neurology, and many of the other medical sciences. And all of the physical therapists at Elite have either completed or are in the process of completing their Certification of Functional Manual Therapy.
Certified FMT therapists study an average of 4 additional years after becoming a traditional physical therapist. FMT takes a high level of commitment and education to achieve this certification, and not many therapists can practice FMT. There are less than 400 Certified Functional Manual Therapists in the world, only 9 in the state of Connecticut, and 4 of them are here at Elite Health Services.
There simply is no comparison between FMT and traditional physical therapy. That is why exceptional results are routine for Elite’s patients.
You’re in good hands!
Will my insurance cover the cost of treatment?
This will depend on your insurance plan’s Out of Network benefits. In many cases, insurance will cover a good portion of your treatment costs. We understand navigating insurance can be confusing, so Elite Health Services will be happy to assist in contacting your insurance company and determining your coverage based on your individual policy.
For more information, visit our insurance plan page and please do not hesitate to contact our Old Greenwich, CT physical therapy office. We do offer different payment options for your convenience
What if I don’t have insurance?
Since we are a cash-based OON clinic, insurance is not required in order to be seen by our therapists!
When will I start noticing relief?
FMT is the Key to Faster Healing
Functional Manual Therapy™ is a multi-dimensional approach to the body that evaluates mobility, motor control and how the brain affects our movements. FMT is the cornerstone of the Elite approach. We don’t practice “traditional” physical therapy because FMT gives a better outcome for most patients.
Our clients see lasting results, much faster than other methods.
FMT is the key to faster healing. It is why many clients tell us they received the same benefit after one FMT session as five traditional physical therapy sessions they had tried before.
Can I continue seeing a therapist even when I feel better?
Yes! We often recommend making physical therapy part of your wellness routine, similar to checking in with your dentist or primary care physician!
We also provide a seamless transition to one of our personal trainers or Pilates instructors to continue your strengthening and athletic performance training when you’re ready.
We offer a complimentary session to make sure it is the right fit, and then communicate with your trainer or instructor to make sure there are no gaps in your return to activity.
The ability to blend our services and the communication between providers makes for a safe and efficient process!

FMT is Not Traditional Physical Therapy

How is Functional Manual Therapy different from traditional Physical Therapy?
When a patient first comes to Elite our Certified FMT therapists carefully observe, assess and skillfully use their hands to identify inflammation, scar tissue and gauge strength and mobility.
Treatment is uniquely designed for each patient and involves manually treating soft tissues, muscles and joints, continually assessing progress and adapting treatment strategies to facilitate strength and healing.
Patients also learn how to prevent issues from recurring by showing them the right ways to move (and how to avoid stressors that may have caused the problem).
Based on specific patient needs, FMT also incorporates behavioral, nutrition and stress management components for maximal healing.
